What Even Is Golf?
Golf is a game where you hit a ball into a hole using different clubs across 9 or 18 holes. You’re aiming to do it in the fewest shots possible. But for beginners, it’s more about fresh air, focus, and fun than scores.
What Do I Actually Need to Start?
You don’t need a full set or a fancy membership. Just:
A few clubs – A putter, 7 iron, and a wedge are more than enough
Some golf balls – Any basic ones will do (you’ll lose a few)
Comfortable clothes and runners – No dress code at the range
A place to practice – Start with a public driving range or short course

The Basics of Golf Clubs
Driver - Biggest club, used for long tee shots.
Fairway Wood - Smaller than a driver, good for distance and control.
Hybrid - Mix of wood and iron, easy to hit from tough lies.
Irons (3–9) - Numbered clubs for most mid-range shots.
Wedges - High-loft clubs for chips, sand, and short shots.
Putter - Flat club for rolling the ball on the green.
Golfhaus Tip: As a beginner, you don’t need every club. A driver, a few irons, a wedge, and a putter is enough to get started.

The Lingo, Made Easy
Tee – Where you start each hole
Green – Where the hole is
Fairway – The nice short grass leading to the green
Rough – The wild stuff on the side
Par – The expected number of strokes for a hole
Bogey – One shot over par (totally fine)
Birdie – One shot under par (celebrate it)
Mulligan – A friendly do over (not official, but hey)
Eagle – Two shots under par (rare, but sweet)
Double Bogey – Two shots over par (still normal, keep swinging)
Bunker – A sand trap, often guarding the green
Handicap – A number that levels the field between players
Slice – When your ball curves way right (for right-handers)
Hook – When your ball curves way left (for right-handers)
Fore! – What you yell if your ball is heading toward someone

Where Should I Go First?
Driving range– Great to just swing and get a feel
Par 3 course– Shorter holes, less pressure
Mini golf– Honestly, not a bad place to build confidence
Golfhaus Tips for First Timers
Start slow — don’t worry about power
Watch a few YouTube basics, then just try
Go with a mate or solo — both are great
Track small wins: one clean hit, one straight shot
Laugh off the bad shots (everyone has them)
